Книга посвящена важному эпизоду эпохи русско-турецкой войны 1735 – 1739 гг. – Немировскому конгрессу 1737 г., который, как предполагали обе воюющие стороны, должен был положить конец их военному противостоянию. Автор рассматривает события и общественные настроения под углом зрения как российской, так и османской сторон, что позволяет по-новому взглянуть на проблему возникновения Восточного вопроса. Книга состоит из 6-ти глав, включает персоналии, указатели, а также имеет два приложения, содержащие документы по теме работы.

The book provides a revealing insight into the history of the Russian-Turkish war of 1735 – 1739. The centerpiece of narration is the Nemirov Congress held in 1737, which was expected to put an end to the military confrontation between the opposing nations, as they thought. Both the Russian state and the Ottoman Empire created by the Turks were trying to play on the global arena according to the rules of international relations. Both Empires were seeking to gain accession to the European family of nations and to adopt the established culture of international conduct. However, none of them achieved any success at the Nemirov Congress. The European diplomacy was interested in getting the two Eastern nations embroiled in mutual conflict and winning control over the issue of geopolitical delineation of the Russian and Ottoman land ownership in the Black Sea region. The 1737 events were the origin of what later was designated as the Eastern Issue, i.e. the problem in international politics that fueled constant confrontation between Russia and the Ottoman Empire over a span of the subsequent 150 years and made their bilateral relationships largely influenced by the balance of forces within the European community. In the author’s opinion, focusing on the prevailing sentiments and reviewing the events that happened on the Russian and Ottoman side simultaneously, allows developing a fresh approach to the problem of Eastern Issue. The book consists of 6 Chapters, Personalia, Indices and has 2 Supplements which present documents on the work’s subject.
